A valued variety with excellent orchard and perry making qualities. The Huffcap group of pears is numerous, but this and Yellow Huffcap were regarded in the 1960s by Long Ashton Research Station, as the ones to be retained. This does though limit the genetic diversity of the population, possibly losing features such as disease resistance that might be valuable.
